5 Signs Your Watch Needs Immediate Repair
5 Signs Your Watch Needs Immediate Repair
Watches rarely fail without warning. If you notice any of these symptoms, bring your timepiece to DeChronos before minor issues become expensive repairs.
1. Moisture Under the Crystal
This is an emergency. Water inside your watch will destroy the movement, dial, and hands. Even a small droplet indicates failed gaskets. Stop wearing it immediately and bring it for service.
2. The Watch Stops and Starts
Intermittent stopping usually means:
- Low battery (quartz)
- Mainspring issue (mechanical)
- Debris in the movement
Don’t shake the watch to restart it — this can worsen internal damage.
3. Unusual Sounds
A healthy mechanical watch makes a soft, regular ticking. Grinding, clicking, or rattling noises indicate broken or loose parts that can destroy other components if left unchecked.
4. Rapid Time Loss or Gain
If your watch suddenly becomes inaccurate — losing or gaining several minutes per day — the movement needs regulation or repair. Magnetisation is a common cause and easily fixed.
5. Crown or Pusher Issues
A crown that won’t wind, a date that won’t change, or pushers that feel mushy indicate worn stems, broken gears, or corroded tubes. These issues worsen with use.
